Nora Roberts, who in her J. D. Robb persona kills off the head of a computer gaming company in her upcoming In Death novel, Fantasy in Death (February 2010), has chosen to step into that fictionally hazardous business herself. Keith Staskiewicz, on Entertainment Weekly's online "Shelf Life" column, announced yesterday, December 8, 2009, that Roberts has arranged with Oberon Media's publishing division, I-play, to adapt her April 2009 Bride Quartet title Vision in White as a downloadable interactive game.

I-play will release a computer game based of Nora Roberts'
Vision in White.
The Vision in White game, which will feature the four women of the wedding-planning company Vows, will follow the plot of Roberts' novel and will contain "hidden-object tasks and nuptial-themed mini-games." Roberts is also said to be interested in adapting some of her other books into games, particularly her J. D. Robb In Death series.
Entertainment Weekly quotes Roberts as saying, “I think it’s great that there are so many kinds of media to play with. . . . And to have a story translated into a game like this, it's tremendous fun for me. It’s my initial vision, but I enjoy seeing how, when you translate it into that other medium, how somebody else’s vision manages to affect it but keep the core of the story.”
I-play has already had success in creating games based on fictional works. As its October 19, 2009 press release reveals, I-play recently added a third game based on Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot novels to its catalog. Agatha Christie: Dead Man's Folly joins Agatha Christie: Death on the Nile and Agatha Christie: Peril at End House.
I-play has also adapted some of the novels in James Patterson's Women's Murder Club series. Women’s Murder Club: Death in Scarlet, released in September 2008, was followed in 2009 by Women’s Murder Club: A Darker Shade of Grey and Women's Murder Club: Games of Passion. The Women's Murder Club games include the characters from Patterson's books, but unlike the games based on Agatha Christie's novels, they use original storylines.
Trial versions of many of the Women's Murder Club and Agatha Christie games can be downloaded from the I-play website. Readers who are curious about the development of the new Vision in White game may want to check these out.
