Meet the leaders, the corporate funders and the great nonprofits

Before I leave the west coast for much needed respite, I wanted to call readers' attention to some exciting developments on the horizon.

LEADERSHIP SERIES
With boomers retiring and our sector in financial limbo, the question of leadership looms large. In August, I'll kick off a monthly Leadership Profile series. To dovetail with CompassPoint Services' Nonprofit Day, I'll speak with that organization's Chief Executive Officer, Jeanne Bell. We'll discuss her insights on leadership qualities, vision and essential skills necessary in order for organizations to thrive in this economy.

I welcome your suggestions for San Francisco nonprofit leaders you might like to see profiled in this monthly feature.

TIPS FROM CORPORATE PHILANTHROPISTS
At the end of this month, I'll cover the San Francisco Business Times' Corporate Philanthropy Awards, and will interview two major funders from the corporate sector. These community relations executives are anxious to share tips and best practices, and to dispel myths regarding what corporations look for when deciding to fund a nonprofit. Yes, this is the page to watch for the inside scoop.

GREAT NONPROFITS
Also, watch for a profile of "Yelp for the Nonprofit World." GreatNonprofits launched in late 2007, and their site now boasts more than 1,000 charitable organizations reviewed. In my July 20th column, readers will learn about GreatNonprofits' Cancer Fighter Award campaign and their recent successes elevating the visibility of organizations that champion LGBT issues and the environment.

To be sure you don't miss a time-sensitive post, subscribe to this column. Don't forget, I'd love to hear from readers, so please leave a comment or contact me directly.

Until next time ...
