Just a few months after her 25th birthday, Valerie Ludwig lost her battle with brain cancer. I had the privilege to meet this vivacious, sassy girl several times through her uncle, who I worked with at a local non-profit. Despite her cancer, Valerie still volunteered to help with an event with our organization because of her uncle. This seemed to embody Valerie's heart, selflessness and spunk.
This year, her friends are putting on an event on Valentine's Day in Valerie's memory to benefit the Kenny Can Brain Caner Foundation--a testament to the legacy she left behind.
Valerie's best friend and one of the event's organizers, Jessica Fryc, shared some thoughts,
"My best friend was a model of strength, courage, and audacity. She never ceased to amaze me as she lived each day with constant compassion and a true sincerity for others, even while she was forging through what would prove to be the hardest struggle of her life. Valerie's
death is not to be mourned, but rather celebrated and honored in a way
she would love most...a Valentine's Day Party in her name! Everyone
who knew Valerie has been made well aware of her love for this holiday
and of her enormous collection of pink attire on various occasions."
Because of her adoration of the color pink and fancy dress, all guests are asked to dress up and wear something pink as a tribute to Valerie. The event includes premium open bar, hors d'oeuvres, pasta, carvery, and salad stations, dessert and coffee as well as a DJ, dancing and and a raffle. For $80 per person, it's a pretty good deal for a Valentine's Day celebration...and a celebration of the life of a very special girl who lost her life much too soon.
If you can't make the party, please consider making a donation in memory of this amazing girl!
