Patrick Henry Caucus focuses on the 10th Amendment

Utah State Representative Carl Wimmer is helping to unite like-minded state legislatures and people across the country by forming the Patrick Henry Caucus. He is appearing Friday on the Glenn Beck Show (5pm EST). On May 20th, at the Utah State Capital from 12pm to 2pm, there will be a rally as, "The Patrick Henry Caucus will focus on introducing legislation to take our States’ Rights back. Please come and stand with our Utah legislators who have moved past “toothless resolutions” and are taking action!"

By now many are reading with interest the move in Montana as they passed into law their 'Firearms Freedom Act' while many other states are following suit. The 'Tenth Amendment Center has become a very popular website, tracking all the activities surrounding the states legislative actions surrounding the 10th Amendment. So why the 10th and why use Patrick Henry?

There were two very critical amendments in the Bill of Rights our Founding Fathers knew were keystones for the successful future of our Constitutional Republic. The 9th Amendment clarifying the people's rights (that would be you) and the 10th Amendment clarifying states' powers. Patrick Henry was one of the most vocal among the Founding Fathers when it came to the fact our Constitution was designed to restrict the federal government, not restrict the people.

As Carolyn Alder, Freedom Coach and Co-founder of the Freedom Formula explains, "The United States Constitution is the government’s boss. It tells the national government what it can and can’t do. The Constitution is to define, restrict, and control the powers of the national government; to “bind down from mischief those we are obliged to trust with power, with the chains of the Constitution." In the words of Patrick Henry, “The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government - lest it come to dominate our lives and interests.”

We must all support state initiatives to reawaken the long too dormant states' powers under the 10th Amendment. We also must realize, whenever we read or hear anything, our rights come before the federal government's authority if it is beyond Article 1, Section 8 or an amendment to the Constitution. When the federal government oversteps their enumerated powers it is our responsibility to put them in check. This is not extremism, this is not some joking group of tea bag waivers, this is not anti-government, this is OUR responsibility within OUR government. It is good to see the birth of the Patrick Henry Caucus. We will follow their growth and efforts with great interest.

What can you do? View the show May 15th and attend the gathering at the Utah State Capital on May 20th if you are able. Check with your state representatives and see if they plan to join the Patrick Henry Caucus and support states' powers along with people's rights. Get involved in one of the many online Patrick Henry Caucus groups on Facebook, Meetup, The 912 Project, and other online communities. Study the 9th and 10th Amendments so you know why they are keystone to our successful future as a Constitutional Republic, not a representative democracy.

Gary thank for your very timely and important article! We are also trying to help Carl with this critical movement. I should have given the quote, "to bind those we are obliged to trust with power...let no more be heard of confidence in man but bind him down from mischief with the chains of the Constitution" to Thomas Jefferson. It was also Thomas Jefferson who said, "The greatest danger to American freedom is a government that ignores the Constitutin." We the people are waking up to the fact that we can no longer ignore the Constitution either!
