Christmas day is the celebration of the birth of Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus is the anointed one, chosen by God to deliver mankind from the works of the adversary, to proclaim the gospel of the Kingdom, and to manifest the Holy Spirit in power.
Old Testament prophesies
For four thousand years previous to His birth mankind was nurtured and prepared for His coming. The Old Testament testifies and prophesies of His birth.
His birth:
- Isaiah 7:14, 9:6
- Micah 5:2
His ministry and death
- Zechariah 9:9, 12:10
- Psalm 22:16-18
- Isaiah 53:3-7, 50:6
The wise men
According to the Gospel of Matthew, wise men from the east recognized the prophesied signs of His birth and sought after Him (Matthew 2:1-12). They found Him, worshiped Him and presented Him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.
Two thousand years of the Holy Spirit
Two thousand years ago Jesus died on the cross, was resurrected and ascended to heaven, but He has not left us alone. He sent us the Spirit of Truth (John 14:16-20). The Holy Spirit fills all sincere believers. For two thousand years the Holy Spirit has lived in every seeker of Jesus. Like the Magi, the disciples of Jesus worship Him and bring Him gifts. A true worshiper's gift is not a tangible object, but is the substance of their heart and mind (Psalm 51:17).
Are you wise?
Wise men and women living today still seek Jesus. They seek an intimate personal relationship with Him as the disciples recorded in the Bible had. They seek to sit at His feet and be taught truth, as Mary of Bethany did (John 14:26, Luke 10:38-42). They seek to be one with Him as He is one with the Father (John 15:4-7, John 14:11).
This relationship is manifested through the power of the Holy Spirit (Titus 3:5), by the renewing of your mind (Romans 12:2, Ephesians 4:2, Colossians 3:10).
Deuteronomy 4:29
- But from there you will search again for the LORD your God. And if you search for him with all your heart and soul, you will find him.
