On Friday, Lipgloss celebrated its 9th Anniversary with guest DJ The Juan McLean (DFA Records).
It is hard to believe it has been nine years already. Lipgloss started out in 2001 as a relatively small once-a-month Monday party. Since then, it has grown into a weekly Friday-night dance extravaganza at La Rumba, gathering over 500 people who love to dance to their favorite indie, electro, brit-pop and glam-rock tracks, as well as discovering new music they've never heard of.
Lipgloss has gone through many changes since its conception, including losing two of its founding members - Tim Cook and Tyler "Danger" Jacobson. But, the party always continued to grow and evolve, consistently enticing crowds with great music, dancing, drink specials and free giveaways such as CDs, concert and movie tickets.
Resident DJs Boyhollow (Michael Trundle) and Chase Dobson, along with Ginger Perry and numerous guest DJs of national and international scope, have been keeping Lipgloss at the top of indie club nights with a loyal following that rivals in numbers those of indie club-nights in much larger cities like Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco.
