So many lounge type bars get it wrong that it is nice to finally see someone get it right. The nearly year old Grey Gallery and Lounge on Capitol Hill is carefully planned to provide patrons with a posh urban slouch zone. The lighting is perfect, the music plays at the exact right volume, and the staff knows how to create a chill and inviting vibe.
The daily happy hour goes from 4:00 to 7:00 and offers good deals on food and drinks. Pints of hearty local brews are $3. Delicious plate options include a noteworthy tarragon mushroom crepe, served with a green side salad. While ordering food, do not overlook your cook. If you happen to get Brandon, a young aspiring writer, ask him to maximize your entertainment experience with one of his riddles. Recent addition at the bar, Jillian, comes fully loaded with a dangerous combination of drink wizardry and sassy sex appeal. You will find her hosting on Monday and Saturday nights.
The lounge supports the gallery, which features emerging artists who display a variety of media. Exhibits last about two months. You do not want to miss the next exhibit's opening party, featuring Joseph Arnegger. Show up Thursday, January 8 from 6:00 to 10:00 and enjoy dj and drinks. If you get the chance make sure to track down the owner Erik, a hip cat who deserves a firm congratulatory handshake for a job well done.
