Jake Fogelnest still wants you to call him for a chat

Jake Fogelnest's Twitter page has his home phone number on it -- and he will really pick up when you call!

(This is a re-post from my other Examiner.com page -- I am the Twitter Examiner and this was too good to hide on just one page.)

I follow a lot of celebrities on Twitter, and some of my favorites aren't that well known (like, say, Britney or Oprah). Jake Fogelnest is a comedian and radio DJ for Sirius Satellite Radio, but many best know him as a commentator on VH1's "I Love The..." shows and "Best Week Ever." He's the one in glasses with the dry wit making fun of celubtants.

Today on Twitter, Jake decided to do a social experiment of sorts. He posted his real home phone number and asked people to call him. I was hesitant to believe that it was actually his number, as most celebrities want to keep this information private. I decided to give it a try, though, and dialed (646) 484-5323.

"Hello?" a voice said. This was odd, as I was expecting the person who answered to say something like "Ray's Pizza, how may I help you?"
"Hey, is this Jake Fogelnest?" I asked.
"Yep, this is Jake. Hold on, I'll be right back." I could hear the phone click over and I thought it was going to disconnect me, or perhaps I'd hear laughs in the background.

The voice came back on the phone and I realized that this was actually Jake Fogelnest himself, chatting with Twitter followers on this humid Saturday in New York City. We talked about the shitty weather, but then I asked about the kind of calls he was receiving. "I was expecting a lot of 'f*ck you,' 'you're a douchebag,' kind of calls. But the nicest most wonderful people from around the country have called and it totally flabbergasted me. I didn't get a single mean call (knock on wood!)" he said.

I asked him why he wanted to post his number on Twitter, and he said he didn't really expect to gain anything. "I recently moved, and Time Warner Cable offered the package where you get internet, cable, and home phone. 'I don't need digital phone!' I said to them, over and over again. But finally I caved and said to send it to me. For a month I've been sitting here, looking at this phone, thinking, 'I don't use this!' I know this is not costing me anything, it's just sitting here, i guess i could put it to use." He also said that if he doesn't want to deal with the calls, he can just unplug the phone and not worry about it. But today he's been talking to everyone who calls, and if they happen to leave a voicemail while he's talking to another person, he will call them back. What a concept!

Fogelnest says that he hasn't been writing down where the callers are from, but maybe he should. The most interesting one he's gotten was from an Apple employee who has been working all day on the new iPhone software. Sadly, he didn't reveal anything about the new iPhone release that's rumored to happen this summer.

If you want to call Jake Fogelnest, pick up your phone and dial (646) 484-5323. If it happens to go to voicemail, leave him a message with your phone number, and he will call you back. I can promise you that he's a very nice guy who can probably make you laugh (if that's what you want) or tell you stories about fun things that have happened during his career. I suggest asking him about meeting the Beastie Boys and Janeane Garafolo when he was 14 years old. Please remember to leave your conversation highlights in the comments!

That's awesome that you called, too! I think you should totally call back and have a follow-up chat. He was such a nice guy! It's refreshing to know that celebrities aren't all mean.
