New York Jets news and notes

  New York Jets Stories

New York Jets have a pretty big day

I think we all expect the New York Jets to emerge as one of the favorites for the 2011 Super Bowl Championship, and while the NFLPA cries about collusion among the NFL owners; it looks like the New York Jets didn’t get the memo. They are on a tear signing their draft picks, and core players to big time extensions. While their spending raises a lot of questions, at the very least they are looking to wrap up their core players long term.

2010 NFL Draft in review: New York Jets

This was a team one win away from a trip to the Super Bowl with a rookie QB. Not to bad, and it means they can do essentially anything in the draft and make the team better. The Jets took the best player available option, and with the 29th scored a great corner in Kyle Wilson. He likely will play a lot at nickel back and maybe even as a punt returner. Since teh Jets play a lot of Nickel and dime this pick makes all kinds of sense.  Kyle also ahs that on the field toughness and grit required by Head Coach Rex Ryan.

What should the New York Jets do with their first round draft pick?

It is hard to account for trades when doing a mock draft, or writing an article about what a team should do with their first round pick. Given the fact that the New York Jets have traded up n the first round in each of the last three drafts, it seems likely that they will do so again.

What are the New York Jets team needs heading into 2010?

At the end of the 2009 season the New York Jets felt like a team that was pretty close to contending for a Super Bowl. During this off season, they have added a lot of pieces. They hope those pieces get them to the Super Bowl.

Draft Day decision makers: New York Jets

New York Jets General Manager Mike Tannenbaum has the final say over all personnel decisions. However Head Coach Rex Ryan is a very good evaluator of defensive talent, and his voice his listened to within the organization. Tannenbaum has been with the Jets since 1997amd took over the GM duties from Terry Bradway in 2006.

2009 NFL Draft one year later: New York Jets

The New York Jets may have had the best draft of all the 2009 teams. With just three picks they scored a franchise QB, a future featured RB, and a solid OG. Not too shabby. I gave them high marks last summer for this draft, and I might be higher on them now.

2009 NFL season in review: New York Jets

I cannot make sense out of the Thomas Jones LT thing either, and I think their owner, Woody Johnson needs to take his medication. However this was a 9-7 team that made it all the to the AFC Championship game. They have built a solid foundation and look to be a force in the AFC for sometime to come. They have done well in free agency so far, adding a few pieces and look to build on their strong post season run. Rex Ryan is a great coach, and Mark Sanchez may just be a great QB.

Unhappy Sanchez to sit against Tampa Bay

Much like fellow 2009 Top five pick, Matthew Stafford of the Detroit Lions, Mark Sanchez of the New York Jets will set this coming Sunday when his team heads to Florida to play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Sanchez has a sprained right knee, is not happy about sitting.

Edwards has impressive debut with Jets

Only Three times since 1970 has an offensive NFL player started for one team in a given week, been traded mid week, and then started for his new team the very next week. That is exactly what Braylon Edwards just did, and he turned in a performance that may have severely angered Cleveland Browns fans. On Monday Night Football Edwards, turned in a performance that seemed worthy of the third overall pick the Browns used to draft him in 2005. Browns fans have to be left wondering why he didn’t play like that in Cleveland.

Braylon Edwards traded to the Jets

We may be seeing the creation of a very disturbing trend in professional sports. When a stir player for a team in a given town decides he wants to be traded all he needs to do is punch the friend of another star player from the town in a different sport in the face and they shall be granted their trade.  Two days after allegedly punching a friend of Lebron James in the face, Braylon Edwards has been traded to the New York Jets

Sanchez makes impresive debut

The New York Jets made a strong draft day trade to acquire a potential franchise QB is USC’s Mark Sanchez. One pre-season game into his NFL career, that decision looks to be a very good one. While Sanchez only played one series, it was a very impressive series, and Sanchez looked like he had been an NFL QB for a long time. In no way did he look like a rookie QB seeing his first NFL action.

2009 New York Jets draft analysis

The New York Jets and General Manager Mike Tannenbaum may have gotten the best steal in this draft not once, but twice. With a couple of bold moves by Tannenbaum, who has been known to be a draft day trader, the Jets may have added the core of their offense for many years to come.

2003 NFL draft pick by pick: #4 Dewayne Robertson

Dewayne Robertson, pick #4 in the 2003 draft by the New York Jets, has the distinction of being the second bust of the 2003 draft. The first was Charles Rogers at pick #2. Dewayne a DT, who attended the University of Kentucky, skipped his senior season to enter the 2003 draft.
