2009 NFL draft one year later: Miami Dolphins

I want to be higher on this draft class; I really do as I was an advocate of taking QB Pat White high in the 2009 NFL draft. However I cannot understand how they used the 44th overall pick on him, and then deciding to not use him hardly at all. It makes little sense to me. While they did land two starting CB’s, and that was one of their biggest positions of need, they missed on several late round pick. One year ago I gave the Dolphins high marks for the decision to take the two corners, and making a move that was outside the box. It didn’t work out and that grade has to come down one year in.

Draft Day decision makers: Miami Dolphins

Sure Jeff Ireland holds the title of General Manager, but come on we all know Bill Parcells is calling the shots. That will include who they draft with 12th overall pick, and probably who cleans up the trash at Joe Robbie, I mean Dolphins, I mean whatever their stadium is called this week.

What should the Miami Dolphins do with their first round draft pick?

The Dolphins have three glaring needs, a number one wide receiver, an inside linebacker to rebuild the LB corps with, and a big play safety to get rid of the knack of this defense giving up big plays. They were tied with the most 40 yard and over plays in 2009.

Fix the Franchise: Miami Dolphins edition

With a 7-9 record the Miami Dolphins do not have as much work to do as some of the other teams we have covered so far. It seems like the got the right front office guy in Bill Parcells, their Head Coach Tony Sparano seems to be doing a pretty good job, and much of the work that has to be done now lies on the defensive side of the ball. They may have a bit of a QB controversy to squash, but by and large this is a pretty solid team that needs some big time playmakers on defense.

Dolphins needs heading into 2010

According to Pro Football Reference the Miami Dolphins scored 360 points in 2009, but gave up 390, that seems to suggest that their primary needs lie on the defensive side of the ball.

2009 NFL season in review: Miami Dolphins

In the end they were 7-9 not to bad but not that good. It seems that the 2009 version of the Miami Dolphins were a very streaky team. They started the season with three straight losses, then lost QB Chad Pennington to an injury. In steps Chad Henne, and they win seven of the next ten games, only to end the season losing three straight. Hard to explain, but it seems this team just goes through streaks, streaks where the Wild Cat offense works very well, and streak where it just doesn’t.

Chad Henne era to begin for the Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins season went from pretty bad to a whole lot worse yesterday as they look to have lost starting QB Chad Pennington for the rest of the 2009 season. No Wild Cat offensive tricks, or yelling and screaming from General Manager Bill Parcells, or any celebrity ownership, is going to help make up for that loss. While the Dolphins were the most improved team of the 2008 season, it now seems like they have come back to earth a little bit.

Dolphins trade for Thigpen

The Miami Dolphins facing a 0-3 start and the loss of starting QB Chad Pennington for the season to a shoulder injury traded an undisclosed draft pick to the Kansas City Chiefs for QB Tyler Thigpen. The Dolphins were forced to make a deal having only Chad Henne and rookie Pat White on the roster after losing Pennington. While Thigpen isn’t a great QB, he is a serviceable one who played much of the 2008 season starting for the Chiefs.

Williams Sisters buy into Miami Dolphins

Venus and Serena Williams have reportedly become the latest celebrities to buy minority shares of the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins were sold by former owner Wayne Huizenga to new Majority owner Stephen Ross in January of 2009. Since then Ross has sold off many minority stakes in his club, and reached a new marketing agreement with song writer Jimmy Buffett.

2009 Miami Dolphins draft analysis

The Miami Dolphins were in a very strange situation, in 2008 they went from a 1-15 team to a 11-5 team, the general public saw this as proof the Dolphins had been rebuilt. It seems that the executives running this team knew a little better.
