2010 NFL Draft in review: Green Bay Packers While I like what the Green Bay Packers did in the draft, we have to weigh that with what they failed to do. I fully expected, as did many other draft pundits, for the Packers to use their second round pick on a pass rushing OLB. However when it came to the 56th overall pick the top five linebacker prospects were already off the board. No team listens to their draft board more that the Packers so they took DE Mike Neal who can play end, and sub in to upgrade the Packers pass rush. |

Draft Day decision makers: Green Bay Packers Brett Favre's arch nemesis Ted Thompson is the General Manger, and the one calling the shots for this team on draft day. He has been with the Packers since 2005; Thompson worked in the Seattle Seahawks front office, and previously for the Packers as assistant Director of Player Personnel. His chief Lieutenants are Director of Football Operations Reggie McKenzie and Director of College Scouting John Dorsey. |

What are the Green Bay Packers team needs heading into 2010? It seems there is one prevailing need for this team, and that is to rebuild the offensive line to protect QB Aaron Rodgers better. This team gave up 51 sacks in the regular season in2009, and five more in the playoff game against the Arizona Cardinals a team that had little to no pass rush for the outside edge. |

2009 NFL Draft one year later: Green Bay Packers This is how the draft is supposed to work. Use your first pick to take a player at a position of need, and then make a strong move to move up and get a player in the bottom half of the first round. Six of their 2009 draft picks played in at least nine games. It looks like they netted at least three starters, and quite possible a fourth in the 7th round. This draft looks just as good as it did one year ago, and if Brad Jones can take over the OLB spot for teh departed Aaron Kampman it looks even better. |

2010 Green Bay Packers Schedule In 2002 the NFL changed its scheduling formula to insure that all 32 teams would play each other on a rotating basis. It sounds a little complicated, but can be broken down fairly easily.
Since the NFL currently plays in a 16 game schedule each teams yearly schedule is determined like this: |

2009 NFL season in review: Green Bay Packers With an 11-5 record it seems that the Green Bay Packers are well on the road to success. However, a wild card round shootout loss to the Arizona Cardinals by the score of 51-45 suggest there is still some work to do. The main need of this team is to find some protection for QB Aaron Rodgers, and then to continue the defensive upgrades. It should not be a ton of work if done in the correct manner. This team is pretty close to being a serious contender again. |

Not only was this the best 2009 draft day trade, but it may be the finest trade Green Bay Packers General Manager Ted Thompson has pulled in his tenure with the team. After drafting DT BJ Raji with the 9th overall pick, Thompson dealt his 2009 2nd round (41st overall) and 3rd round (73rd overall) to the New England Patriots for the 26th pick in the first round. There he selected USC OLB Clay Matthews.
