I know a lot of Dallas Cowboys fans are going to get mad at me, but I got to say I think Jerry Jones is a clown. Ya know I live in Detroit so I have heard a lot of bad excuses about bad draft picks, but taking Dez Bryant because you passed on Randy Moss 12 years earlier is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard.
I am not going to sit here and say that the Cowboys did not need another Wide out, even though they have Roy Williams, Patrick Crayton, and of course Miles Austin. My main problem with this move was using the 24th overall pick on a position that was not a burning need for this team.
Of course Bryant is a character risk, and may have problems dealing with the limelight. Of course other receivers like that have gone to Dallas and have very successful careers. The Jury is still out on this one, but I truly believe there were bigger needs on this roster.
In the second round the Cowboys took LB Sean Lee out of Penn State. I really like this pick, and it is the reason I will not slam them too hard for taking Bryant in the first. He is instinctive and will slip blocks and make big plays for this defense.
In the fourth round Jerry Jones decided that it was time to work on the defensive secondary by selecting CB Akwasi Owusu-Ansah. He might have gone to a small school, but he has big skills, and it is another pick that I really like.
With two six round picks they selected OT Sam Young and CB Jamar Wall. Young looks to be a very good right tackle, and this team needed some youth on the O line. Wall will be a star on special team, and looks to be a backup or a nickel back. He is a very good cover man.
With their last pick in this draft the Cowboys selected DT Sean Lissemore out of William and Mary College. He is a development pick, and may take a few years to gain the skills needed to play this position in the NFL.
Now a more complete look at the 2010 Cowboys draft class:
Round One (24)- WR Dez Bryant Oklahoma State
Round Two (55)- LB Sean Lee Penn State
Round Four (126)- Akwasi Owusu-Ansah Indiana (Pa)
Round Six (179)- OT Sam Young Notre Dame
Round Six (196)- CB Jamar Wall Texas Tech
Round Seven (234)- DT Sean Lissemore William & Mary
