Draft Day decision makers: Cincinnati Bengals

Without a doubt Team President Mike Brown, has the final say, but the Bengals war room is a collaborative effort and he works closely with head coach Marvin Lewis. Director of player personnel Duke Tobin is a trusted eye for talent, and is also relied on heavily. Pete and Paul Brown also carry the title of Vice President Player Personnel and will join the war room, along with their full complement of scouts.

What should the Bengals do with their first round draft pick?

Depending on how we interpret the Bengals hierarchy of needs, there is probably two ways they will go with the 21st overall pick in this year’s NFL draft.

What are the Cincinnati Bengals team needs?

This is a tough one to ferret out. The Bengals still have 10 unrestricted free agents at multiple positions, so needs could change due to who they can resign, and who they want to resign.

2009 NFL Draft one year later: Cincinnati Bengals

If it were not for their second round pick, which should be labeled felony robbery, the 2009 draft of the Bengals would be about a big, a disaster as one could imagine. It seems to me that the lack of a true General Manger hinders this team’s ability to make solid moves in the draft. Their second round pick was a no brainer, and they may have gotten a good value in the third, but one year later I am still very skeptical about the 20009 draft of the Cincinnati Bengals.

Cincinnati Bengals 2010 Schedule

In 2002 the NFL changed its scheduling formula to insure that all 32 teams would play each other on a rotating basis. It sounds a little complicated, but can be broken down fairly easily. Since the NFL currently plays in a 16 game schedule each teams yearly schedule is determined like this:

2009 NFL Season in review: Cincinnati Bengals

Oh man do I want to rip the Bengals up and down, but the simple facts here are they had a 10-6 record and made the playoffs and NFL fans in Detroit cannot afford to throw rocks. All season, I sat in my office and awaited the Bengals inevitable collapse. I had the over under on that at week 12. However in the end it seems that a tragic death destroyed this team, not the usual misconduct by the players on the roster. Losing Chris Henry really affected this team, and not even I can bag on the dead.

T.O.’s nest stop… Cincinnati?

It doesn’t look like Terrell Owens will resign with the Buffalo Bills, so the question becomes where will he sign? Chad Ochocinco seems to think that he will join him with the Cincinnati Bengals. While that could be a tremendous receiving corps, it would be a move destined to blow up in the faces of teh Bengals front office staff.

Ochocinco fined 30k for touchdown celebration

After scoring a TD against the Detroit Lions last Sunday, Chad Ochocinco headed to the bench where he dawned a poncho and a sombrero in what was he latest attempts to be funny, be the star, or whatever other need drivers this man to do the things that he does. The NFL on Wednesday fined Chad 30 grand for the incident. The 30k number was 10k more than the NF fined him earlier this year when Chad faked bribing an official in another of his now infamous TD celebrations.

Bengals getting it done with castoffs

Before the start of the 2009 NFL season many gave the Bengals virtually no chance at competing. Now, as we head into week 8 they are 5-2, hold a victory over each of their AFC North opponents. While those are impressive stats, the fact that this is a team compromised mostly of other team’s castoffs is nothing short of amazing.

Bengals sell out streak in jeopardy

For the past five seasons the Cincinnati Bengals have not had to print single game tickets. They have had 65,000, the capacity of Paul Brown Stadium, season ticket buyers. That streak may be coming to an end ans the Bengals must print single game tickets in 009 for the first time in five years, and a news five year long sellout streak of their home stadium may be in some doubt.

Bengals finally sign Smith

After a 30 day holdout the Cincinnati Bengals have finally signed 2009 first round draft pick(6th overall) Andre Smithto a contract. With a little more than two weeks left before the regular season starts the team is hopeful to get Smith ready to assume the starting Right Tackle spot for this offense. Really though this is a story about a player witha bad attitude, an owner who does things is own way, and a fan base that is getting fed up with the circus the Bengals have become.

The Bengals are unwilling to give Smith fair contract

This is one of those stories that makes one wonder how incompetent can NFL owners really be. This story alone, aside from the decade of losing, ranks the Cincinnati Bengals among one of the worst NFL franchises. It is no winder that the Bengals are only one of five NFL teams that do not employ a General Manager.

2009 Cincinnati Bengals Draft analysis

To be fair the Bengals did not start off this draft all that well. Picking sixth and needing a center to help protect QB Carson Palmer and open up holes for the running game the Bengals passed on Center Alex Mack of Cal. This could be a potential big miss for the future of this team.

2003 NFL Draft pick by pick, #1 Carson Palmer

The general rule for NFL draft picks is it takes a good five years, before we can accurately assess how their NFL careers have gone, and accurately rank their worthiness of the pick used to select them.

With that in mind we can take a look at the NFL draft class of 2003, who are now in their sixth NFL season. The first player selected in 2003 was QB Carson Palmer of USC by the Cincinnati Bengals.
