Buffalo Bills needs heading into 2010

The Football writers here at Examiner.com have been taking a look at the 2010 Needs for each NFL team. Today we take a look at the Buffalo Bills who finished 2009 with a 6-10 record, and have the 9th pick in the 2010 draft.

The Buffalo Bills have a new General Manager, and a new head coach. The universal rule in football is new regimes equal new quarterbacks, but it is not like Ryan Fitzpatrick or Trent Edwards is stepping up making a convincing argument that either of them can adequately run the Bills offense.

Depending on what they can find in Free Agency the will have to address the bulk o f their needs in the draft. This is a team that needs some talent, and needs it in a very bad way.

That means QB is the primary need for this team, and since they have the ninth pick in the 2010 draft they may just select one there. With the 9th pick in the 2010 draft one of the top QB prospects is still going to be on the board.

Since it looks like WR Terrell Owens will sign somewhere else for the 2010 season, the Bills could also use a receiver to pair with Lee Evans. If they are not sold on a QB with the 9th pick they may select a WR there, unless they can land another big free agent prize at this position. Since free agency looks to be extremely limited in 2010 they may be forced into drafting one with a high pick.

However the Bills also need to complete the overhaul of the offensive line started in the 2009 draft. Even though they added C Erik Wood, and Guard Andy Levitre they could still use a left guard. Expect them to address that need in the third to fifth rounds.

Even though they added DE Aaron Maybin in last year’s draft they still need help on the defensive side of the ball. They could use a DT, and an OLB. Since they had the 16th best defense in 2009 we can go ahead and call these secondary needs.

The Bills might also look towards free agency and later round draft picks to build up some depth on primarily their O line, bur perhaps their D line as well.

The simple fact here is the Bills have a few playmakers, but not enough. They need a big infusion of talent to truly compete with the other teams in the AFC East.
