2010 New York Jets draft class

The New York Jets ended up with four picks in the 2010 NFL Draft. While we could say that they did not draft their needs, we could also say that a team that came as close as they did in 2009 that taking a win now philosophy is certainly the way to go.

Of course we could also effectively argue that the Jets went a long way towards rebuilding their entire running game. QB Mark Sanchez was impressive, and with a solid running game behind him he should take another big step in 2010.

With the 29th overall pick in the second round the Jets get an absolute steal in CB Kyle Wilson. Sure he is a dime and nickel CB and a return guy, but we must remember that the Jets defense runs a lot of plays in those formations. Wilson should have an immediate impact on this team.

In the second round the Jets selected OT Vladimir Ducasse. This was actually a need of theirs, but I thought they needed a guard more than a tackle. He is big enough to move inside to Guard, and that might be the plan.

In the fourth round the Jets move up to select USC RB Joe McKnight. I think this is a steal as well, as McKnight as all kinds of playmaking ability. He becomes another weapon for the Jets to deploy at the RB position, and quite possible a change of pace kind of back.

With their final pick the Jets selected FB Joe Conner. Given the other things this team did in the off season it makes a lot of sense to go out and get a big back who can serve as a lead blocker. If he can get McKnight or LaDainian Tomlinson a little space, this team could put up a lot of offensive numbers.

Now a more complete look at the 2010 Jets draft class:

Round One (29)- CB Kyle Wilson Boise State
Round Two (61)- OT Vladimir Ducasse UMASS
Round Four (112)- RB Joe McKnight USC
Round Five (139)- FB Joe Conner Kentucky
