The Dolphins came into the draft looking to add some bulk to their Defensive line, and for Mike Nolan to get a few prospects to help him tweak the defense for 2010. Overall I have to say that they accomplished that goal.
With the 28th pick in the first round, after trading down 16 spots, the Dolphins land DT Jared Odrick. It seems the plan may be to use him as a DE as he has enough length to occupy blockers on the edge. He may one day develop into a interior disruptor for this defense.
In the second round, in a pick they got from the San Diego Chargers, the Dolphins added DE Koa Misi. He is an elite edge pass rusher and figures to be a OLB in the Dolphins 3-4 defense.
With their third round selection the Dolphins add a depth pick for their offensive line in OT John Jerry. Jerry has the skills to play multiple positions along the line, and has the size to move inside to Guard if needed. This is an excellent pick to add a pretty good player to the O line.
We all know that Bill Parcells covets Linebackers, and in the fourth round he took another one. This time it is AJ Edds of Iowa. He is a high motor player that figures to be a depth pick for the LB corps and the special teams units.
Depth at Corner was a concern for this team and they addressed it in round five with the selection of CB Nolan Carroll. He is a good press corner, and should fit in very well with the aggressive Dolphins defense.
With a second fifth round pick they traded to get the Dolphins add SS Reshad Jones. I would pay attention to this pick, as he is good enough to compete for a starting spot in his rookie year.
With two seventh round picks the Dolphins took DL Chris McCoy and LB Austin Spitler. McCoy is a small school DE prospect who probably becomes a depth pick for the LB corps, and Spitler is a speed guy who figures into the special teams plan.
