A 20-year-old San Diego woman, who was not much older than the girls she was recruiting, was sentenced Monday to a year and a half in federal prison for helping recruit girls to pose for sexy photos, which were then posted on Craigslist to solicit prostitution.
According to prosecutors, Jessica King pled guilty back in January to conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking of children and coercion and enticement of a juvenile into prostitution.
Her co-conspirators, Christopher Black and Jordan Arnold, both 21, pled guilty on the same day to the same charge.
Black was sentenced to 68 months in custody and 5 years of supervised release following his release from prison based on his conviction for one count of Conspiracy to Engage in Sex Trafficking of Children and one count of Coercion and Enticement of a Juvenile into Prostitution.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher Tenorio, who prosecuted the case, Black admitted that he recruited and enticed a juvenile to work for him as a prostitute between Aug.15, 2007 and Oct. 11, 2007.
Black and King admitted that they took photographs of the juveniles wearing lingerie and in provocative poses, which were then placed in ads posted on the “Craigslist” Web site to solicit dates.
The dates, however, were prostitution "johns" who responded to the ads and made arrangements to have sex with the juvenile in exchange for payment, according to the prosecutor.
Arnold is slated to be sentenced May 18.
Given that King was only a few years older than the girls she was reportedly "working" with, and given how women are oftentimes treated in our society, it is a bit surprising that she would have gotten herself involved in this scheme in the first place.
Then again, apparently some folks will do anything for money.
