Don't look now, but it appears the San Diego Zoo will be adding a new resident/s before too long.
Zoo officials reported to the outside world that panda Bai Yun is pregnant.
An ultrasound confirmed the suspicions that the 17-year-old panda is carrying two fetuses although one of them may not be viable, according to zoo officials. The expected month of birth is August.
Already the proud mother of four cubs since arriving at the zoo 13 years ago, Bai Yun's first two cubs, Hua Mei and Mei Sheng, reside in a breeding program in the People's Republic of China. Her other two little ones, Su Lin and Zhen Zhen, are still residents of San Diego.
According to zoo officials, the father of the baby Bai Yun is carrying is Gao Gao.
Both Bai Yun and Gao Gao are on loan to the San Diego Zoo for another four years from China.
