The discovery of a female body early this morning on state Route 163 in Mission Valley led to a traffic alert for the area. The traffic alert has since been canceled and cars were reportedly flowing at normal speeds as of mid-morning.
According to authorities, the body was discovered at approximately 5:25 a.m. on south SR-163 just north of east I-8. California Highway Patrol reported that no vehicle was discovered in the area, so officials think the person may have been walking and was struck by a car.
The CHP closed the Hotel Circle offramp from west I-8 and the transition ramp from south SR-163 to west I-8.
According to the San Diego Medical Examiner's office, the decedent has yet to be identified,
The MEO said the victim was white possibly hispanic, female with an estimated age of 44-55 years, who resided in at an unknown location. The victim's death was due to obvious fatal trauma from an apparent hit and run incident. An examination has yet to be scheduled and attempts at identification will occur during that examination.
