Serving nearby or thousands of miles from home, many troops will find their days just a little easier thanks to the folks at Operation Calendar (www.operationcalendar.org).
Raising funds for the troops, the Camouflage 2010: Pin-Up calendar features semi-nude models who have been artfully painted in period designs by artist Filippo Ioco. According to a report on NBCSandiego.com, this is the fifth year that organizer Manuela Mezzadri has raised funds for the troops in this manner.
"I feel privileged and honored to be able to show my support for our military members and their families," Mezzadri told NBCSandiego.com. "They certainly are deserving of any and all assistance that can be given to them, especially our wounded."
Mezzadri and Co. were slated to host an event at Stingaree in downtown San Diego Friday night to celebrate their latest offering. Among the guests scheduled to be on hand were cover girl Melyssa Grace, some specially invited veterans and Sandy Lehmkuhler, the executive director of the Warrior Foundation.
Fifty percent of the proceeds from the 2010 calendar will benefit the foundation, which provides services to injured Veterans and their families.
With so many true heroes defending our freedom all around the world, it is nice to see yet another group of Americans reaching out to their fellow countrymen.
In this case, the memories will last a lifetime.
