Lace up those sneakers, break out the sun block and get ready to strut your stuff for a good cause. June 12th The Katie DeCubellis Memorial Foundation will be hosting its annual 5K Run/Walk starting at Narragansett High School.
Through the years thousands have flocked to the event, which has become hugely popular with runners and walkers of all skill levels. The relatively flat, certified course winds through beautiful Narragansett and adds to the fun filled day.
In addition to a competitive race and walk, the event is family friendly. Attractions include face painting, an inflatable bounce, free Brickley’s ice cream, pizza, hot dogs, raffles, and music. Last year’s event was attended by close to 800 people. We hope to make this year even better! Everyone is encouraged to remain after the race to socialize and have fun. Kids and their parents will find plenty of activities for a fun family outing.
The half-day event is a celebration of the life of Katie DeCubellis, a 13-year-old Narragansett teen tragically killed by a drunk driver on October 29, 1999. “We have felt from the start that the Road Race/Walk is one of the most important and rewarding KDMF events. It not only provides us with an opportunity to continue Katie’s spirit, but also brings the entire community together to celebrate her life and the accomplishments of the KDMF! It is always a fun and memorable occasion,” John and Meg DeCubellis tell this Examiner.
To date, John and Meg have given presentations in schools and at conferences throughout the Country, reaching more than 100,000 students and adults. Their message focuses on the choices each of us make every day, and how those choices can and will shape our lives, for better or worse.
The race will begin and end at the Narragansett High School. Race day registration and check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. The 5K run and walk gets under way at 9:30 a.m. The pre-registration fee through June 8th is $18.00. ON-LINE REGISTRATION is also available at the KDMF website listed below through June 8th. For race day registration or any applications postmarked after June 8th, the fee will be $20.00.
