No this is not another story of American Christmas consumerism run amok. This is a different brand of insanity. Although police are not releasing many details at this time, Palm Desert authorties say this was probably not any kind of dispute over Christmas shopping or a toy. The fact that it took place on one of the busiest shopping days of the year may have lead to the fatalities, however, simply because it limited the opportunity for one or both men to flee the scene.
Eyewitnesses say that two women near the checkout of the crowded Palm Desert Toys R Us suddenly broke into a bloody fist fight. One of the men that was with the women, partially pulled a gun out of his pocket and then slid it back in. The other man pulled his gun out, but failed to cock it. The first man then tried to run but ran into a dead end in the electronics aisle. In the end, both gunmen were shot dead. According to police, they shot each other.
The fact that both men were in close proximity to each other and carrying guns suggests this was not some kind of random argument that got out of hand. They haven't specifically said that this was gang related, but it sure sounds like it. I've watched enough "Gangland" on the History channel to know that, even among most gang bangers, confronting a rival while they have family with them is against the rules. Both of these women had children with them. If this was gang related, one or both of these women broke the rules and their men escalated it to a fatal conclusion.

"Honey, we're going to Toys R Us, grab the handgun."
WTH?
I've shopped in that store many times. There is one entrance and one exit and both have "security" barriers that make access very limited. There is no way to walk straight into and back out of the store. No doubt this contributed to the stressors of the situation, but who packs heat to go to a toy store? I'm shopping online!
Wowowowow
If this is gang related, their gangs need to be hunted and killed off. We don't need idiots in this country who's morality is so low that they feel its ok to bring hand guns to a toy store, but they even dare to start shooting?
Total disregard for life. People like them deserve what they get. Its too bad their crazy girlfriends/wives didn't get it too. If they have children, I pray to God they are smart enough to see how idiotic their fathers/mothers are and strive to become better than that.
Fighting gang violence isn't quite as easy as rounding up everyone with a particular tattoo or bandana and shooting them.
Undercover agents are at this moment infiltrating gangs to gather the necessary evidence to employ the Richoh statutes against them.
Even as they take one gang down, another springs up.
It's often a matter of too many people per square mile with nothing to lose.
No I don't have a quick fix.
typing too fast.
That's RICO statutes
(Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act)
omg is true

And what's your solution if it wasn't gang related, Jon? What's your judgment? Are they still idiots or less so?
Darwin wins again! WOOT!!
two more contenders for the darwin award
Seeing as California is a "May Issue State" when it comes to carrying concealed handguns, the thing I would like to know is, Did either of these guys have a valid permit? I mean, what moron pulls a gun and re-holsters it only to have the other guy pull his and not know how to use the thing?
With training being part of any good CCW law, had these folks taken such a course, they would have know when to use a handgun was legal and when one wasn't.
Of course the liberal media will never do that deep of an investigation. They just want to bash all gun owners as being as derelict as these two. Nothing could be further from the truth.
all of u people are just as crazy as the two shooters, talking about kill kill kill, no one deserves to be killed thats why this country is the way it is now, because of hate...I hate the fact that these people in a moment of stupid rage have ruined the lives of two families (that would have been celebrating the holidays in peace and love) and traumatized many other people in the midst of "their act of hatred" towards each other. Gang violence needs to stop, no doubt about that but so does hatred and judgement based upon stereotypes, and maybe just maybe we can all learn something from this very tragic and sad incident
