FBI debunks Palin indictment

After a liberal blogger created a little fury about Sarah Palin over the weekend, a FBI official attempted to put the item to rest.

Special Agent Eric Gonzalez, the FBI's Alaska spokesman, debunked the theory in a L.A. Times story. "There is absolutely no truth to those rumors that we're investigating her or getting ready to indict her," Special Agent Eric Gonzalez said in a phone interview Saturday. "It's just not true." He added that there was "no wiggle room" in his comments for any kind of inquiry. www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-palin5-2009jul05,0,7018263.story

Brad Friedman posted a blog Saturday, July 3, that alleged a shoe was about to drop on Palin, which precipitated her resignation announcement from the Alaska governor's office on Friday. www.bradblog.com/ One can read Palin's attorney's letter here. tinyurl.com/mmhv4u

Palin's withdrawal from the office is definitely an unorthodox way to run for president, and she has been widely criticized for doing so by various pundits from both the left and right.

Some have said the decision could work for her, however. These include such prominent conservatives as Tony Blankely, Pat Buchanan and Bill Kristol.

Palin's resignation will take effect July 26, and she will be replaced by Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell. She reportedly has a book deal in place and said in her resignation speech that she wants to travel.

Palin has been hit with a number of ethics complaints as governor, the vast majority of which came after she was named as Sen. John McCain's running mate last year. All of these complaints have been dismissed to date. www.examiner.com/x-11470-Newport-News-Conservative-Examiner~y2009m6d22-Palin-is-1401-vs-critics

"Critics are spinning, so hang in there as they feed false info on the right decision made as I enter last yr in office to not run again...," said Palin on Twitter Sunday.

Since when do FBI agents speak on behalf of the agency, about things they are NOT investigating? The fact that Gonzalez said there was "no wiggle room" and that Palin is making knee-jerk threats of lawsuits against major media outlets makes the situation look all the more suspicious.
