July 4th has a very particular feel to it in New York and New Jersey -- BBQs in backyards and on rooftops, bonfires on the shore, fireworks at the Statue of Liberty, and historical reenactments at just about every site where George Washington set foot.
In fact, part of what makes holiday so great is that it has a unique character in every region of the country. So if you're new in town, don't lament what you're missing back home -- take advantage of all the fabulous events Seattle has to offer today.
- Fireworks - Check out one of these fireworks displays happening all over the Seattle area. While Ivar's cancelled its show this year, there are countless others that are sure to leave you awestruck. Shows happen after sunset.
- Food & Drink - Before nightfall, engage in some merrymaking in honor of America. Raise a glass to the U.S.A. at the Seattle International Beer Festival, or head downtown to indulge in a Coffee Crawl or Food Tour.
- Fun & Sun - Head to the waterfront for the Lake Union Wooden Boats Festival, splurge on a dinner and fireworks cruise, party at a community picnic in Cal Anderson Park, or drive to the beach for an old-fashioned Fourth.
No matter how you decide to spend your 4th, be sure to keep in mind what it's all about during this especially historic year for America. Most importantly, have fun, be safe, and revel in your good decision to make Seattle your home.
