5 signs you've become a true Seattleite

There's a very strange thing that happens when you move to a new city.  For a few years, everything feels shiny and interesting and new.  You notice the oddities, smile at the different ways people do things.  Then one morning, you wake up, and BAM!  Suddenly, you're a local.

So how can you tell when you've officially drunk the Seattle Kool-Aid? Here are 5 tell-tale signs that you've made the leap from newcomer to local:

5.) At the end of a long workday, you can't wait to slip into something comfortable ... like a fleece vest and a nice comfy pair of crocs.  Then again, what's the point in dressing up for work?

4.) Your idea of an exciting weekend includes one or more of the following: a tent, a pair of hiking boots, a sale at REI, a compass and Swiss army knife, and/or anything made with Gore-Tex.

3.) Pop Quiz: There are F/A-18 navy jets flying overhead for days.  What does that mean?  a.) The Space Needle is under siege; b.) Aliens are invading the earth; c.) Must be time for Seafair.

2.) When you go to the local farmers market (your shopping stop of choice, naturally), you bring your reuseable shopping bags.  At home, you compost and/or recycle assiduously.

And last, but not least ... drumroll please...

1.) After a few days of bright sun and record-breaking heat, you can't help but think that a day of rain and clouds to cool things down might not be such a bad thing.

another one: You know all the restaurants and stores in town that allow dogs and you bring your dog with you for nearly every outing - and usually are greeted at the location with other dogs as well.

Shiwani I've been here almost 19 yrs. But according to your list I'm not a true Seattleite. I prefer Nordstrom glam to Eddie Bauer chic. My idea of an exciting weekend is seeing and being seen on the town. And I can do without rain and clouds for several days in a row ha ha!

I guess there are always exceptions to every rule -- and it's never a bad thing to be exceptional :)
