Week 4 was a great a weekend of football and unfortunately my predictions paid the price for it. I went 9-5 last week, for a season total of 43-19. Here are my picks for week 5.
Ravens over the Bengals- While this game will be much closer than many expect, the Ravens will come out victorious after a disappointing loss to the Patriots. The Bengals are for real, but this is a tough spot playing in Baltimore against a very hungry Raven team. 21-13
Bills over the Browns- The Bills will enter this game with a sense of desperation, as a loss to the Browns could realistically end their playoff chances. As for the Browns, new head coach Eric Mangini is trying to find ways to trade away the rest of his team in order to start out 2010 with 35 rookies on his squad. This game will not be pretty. 17-10
Panthers over the Redskins- Even though the Redskins won last week, the Jim Zorn watch is on. Jon Gruden anyone? The Panthers are coming off of a bye week and will bring a sense of urgency to the table along with an attacking defense. 23-17
Steelers over the Lions- The Lions are much improved but the injury to quarterback Matthew Stafford puts a small damper on things. Look for the Steelers to run the ball early and often to wear down the Detroit defense. 28-13
Cowboys over the Chiefs- Will the real Dallas Cowboys please stand up? This has to be the game the ‘Boys right the ship or both head coach Wade Phillips and quarterback Tony Romo will face a media firestorm of epic proportions. 31-17
Giants over the Raiders- Lets see one of the worst teams in the NFL taking on one of the best. It does not matter if Eli Manning plays or not, this game is a mismatch. 27-7
Eagles over the Buccaneers- There is too much going in Philadelphia’s favor as they are coming off of a bye and Donovan McNabb is slated to return. 24-10
Vikings over the Rams- There is no doubt that the Vikings are going to experience an emotional letdown after their Favre Bowl on Monday night. In the end Minnesota just has too much firepower on both sides of the ball to lose to a rebuilding Rams team. 21-6
49ers over the Falcons- San Francisco continues to impress every week, especially on the defensive side of the ball. I am going to take the 49ers in a very physical, low scoring game. 14-10
Cardinals over the Texans- This could be one of the highest scoring games of the day as both of these teams play next to no defense. I will take the Cardinals, who are coming off of a bye, playing at home, and a need a win to keep up with the 49ers. 31-27
Patriots over the Broncos- Denver has to be one of the biggest surprises of the season, especially with their performance on the defensive side of the ball. But beating the Patriots on the road? Not happening. Oh and do not worry drama fans, there will be plenty of post game coverage of the handshake between Bill Belichick and Josh McDaniels. 21-9
Seahawks over the Jaguars- Jacksonville has come on strong the last two weeks led by quarterback David Garrard. For whatever reason going to take the Seahawks at home in a game that could see quarterback Matt Hasselbeck return. 20-17
Colts over the Titans- Peyton Manning is arguably playing the best football of his career as the Colts offense is just rolling. This has become a lost season for the Titans and it is only a matter of time before Vince Young returns as the starting quarterback. 31-14
New York Jets vs the Miami Dolphins – Monday Night Football
This is one of the great AFC rivalry games as both of these teams seem to bring out the best in each other. The Jets will look to bounce back off of a disappointing loss to the Saints, while the Fish try to keep up their winning ways. Look for both offenses to establish the run in order to protect their young quarterback. In the end taking the more talented Jets team that will be playing in a place they consider their second home. 24-17
