Jets making mistake playing starters vs. Eagles

Keep your fingers crossed Rex (AP Photo)

The New York Jets take on the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday (Meadowlands, 7pm) in their last preseason game of the year. While the Jets have escaped the preseason relatively injury free, it appears that Rex Ryan is willing to roll the dice a little bit. Ryan, the rookie coach of the Jets, has stated that the starters will play for a series against the Eagles. Exactly what purpose will this serve? The last game of the preseason is usually designated to weed out the bottom half of the roster with rookies and undrafted free agents playing their hearts out to make the team. Why take a chance on getting any of your starters hurt in what could be called a dress rehearsal? I understand there could be a need to have Mark Sanchez walk through the gameday preparation process but that is not worth the risk of injuring any of your offensive linemen.  Good luck with defending this decision Rex, if something goes wrong.

For those of you going to the game, Eagles quarterback Mike Vick is expected to see extensive action

If the Jets win two games this year they'll be lucky. Getting rid of Pennington who last year had the 2nd highest QB rating in the NFL, highest completetion percentage, and 3rd best interceptoion to TD ration insures the Jets will not see the playoffs for at least 5 years. Sanchez no matter what happens will never be in Pennington's league as a QB. The all time completion percentage leader lifetime in NFL history ( which is what Pennington is) doesnt come along that often and Sanchez is never going to be that. If the Jets couldnt win with Pennington (and they couldnt because of lousy head coaches and even worse offensive coordinators) they'll never win with Sanchez and for all the Jet fans who cheered when Pennington got knocked out of a game two years ago because they wanted Clemens, they are all going to get what they deserve.

what a dumb comment. sounds like someone is a little sour about last season and their mancrush on pennington. stop looking at the past. the new season is here and i dont think its possible for this lineup to win only two games. what a dumb comment. get over it.

    Dear Call them the Jests.
Those are some great stats there. NASA type stats. Please take said stats and build yourself a rocketship to the moon and say on said moon. Your words are nothing but drivel.
To all other fans out there, I personally dont see a playoff appearance this year but i can wait a year if it means we will have a solid QB for the next 8 - 10.

Dear Fran -- natrually it takes a jet fan to call going to the moon drivel. Because that is exactly where neither you nor the jets are going. Any team that has fans as ignorant about football and what it takes to win deserves what they are going to get -- last place finishes in the AFC east for at least the next 5 years while the best QB the Jets had since Namath will be in the playoffs every year until he retires.

Dear Tom -- Coles sees the writing on the wall even if you cant. Thats why he'd rather be in Cincy than with a team who has a front office who doesnt have a clue on how to win a championship. I will be back during the season to laugh my head off after every Jest loss. If they lose to Houston and the Raiders they will be this years Detroit - 0-16.

Dear Fran again -- now you know why the Jests lose. With fans who think Pennington's league leading stats are drivel not to mention using them to turn a 1-15 team around to 11-5 and winning the division shows that drivel is going to be the coin of the realm for a long time.

"Call Them the Jests" is the same idiot who always posts on this board about how great Pennington is, how bad the Jets are, and how the Jets will suck for 5 years because they dumped Chad.
Same story from someone who knows absolutely nothing about football. You can read other posts (almost identical) from this moron under the name "picasso".
