Eli Manning is a lot of things. He's a professional quarterback for the New York Giants. He's a brother and son to two other famous NFL quarterbacks. He's a Super Bowl champion, Super Bowl MVP and a resident of Hoboken, New Jersey.
I learned this afternoon that Eli Manning is also a sandwich.
Park & Sixth Comfort Food is a deli that recently opened in Hoboken. As my fiancée was preparing to make her way home from the office, I wandered into the deli hoping to find dinner that I wouldn't have to prepare. When I walked into the deli, I found a list of different sandwiches. One just happened to be named the Eli Manning.
What's on the Eli Manning, you ask? The Eli Manning comes with “House Roast Beef, Caramelized Onions, Roasted Garlic and Creamy Horseradish Sauce.” Being the huge Giants fan that I am, I couldn't leave the deli without ordering the Eli Manning. It also doesn't hurt that the sandwich sounded really good.
And it was. Both the wife and I absolutely loved the horse radish, the roast beef was piled on in at least four layers and the combination of the onions and garlic made the sandwich more than just a standard meat and bread sandwich. Hoboken is a town known for authentic delis and Emily and I have been to just about all of them. I can honestly say that the Eli Manning was arguably the best sandwich we've had since moving to Hoboken over two years ago.
The people in Park & Sixth were personable and recommended several other sandwiches and dishes that Em and I intend to try. Whether you live in Hoboken and haven't been to Park & Sixth yet or you intend to visit Hoboken, this is definitely a stop you will want to make when looking for food in town.
You might be wondering why I would mention a sandwich on this New York Giants page. While I was waiting for the Eli Manning sandwich to be completed, I couldn't help but ask if the famous Hoboken resident had stopped in to try the sandwich named in his honor.
“No, not yet” is what the gentleman working behind the counter told me. “We're hoping to get the word out about the sandwich and get Eli to come in sometime before the season.” Well, here you go, guys. Mr. Eli Manning, there's a delicious sandwich with your name on it (literally) waiting for you at Park & Sixth in Hoboken. I live just a few blocks away so maybe you could drop by and say hello on your way to or from the deli.
