The argument for inclusion: God is impartial - can't we try?

Did you know that God is impartial? Spirit doesn’t discriminate and shows no preference toward anyone. God has no favorites and is totally unbiased.

This means nobody is special – or everybody is special!

Since God is neutral I’ve often wondered why judgment and prejudice is tolerated by so many. How do some religions justify the suppression of rights just because people are different? Judgment or prejudice, are human traits. Our saving grace is that we are not human beings – we’re spiritual beings. However, the more we exhibit low energy traits, like prejudice and judgment, the more we become separate from Spirit.

"If you judge people you have not time to love them.” -Mother Teresa

Continuing my discussion from “What is a Mystic? Part I” and “Part II,” a mystic strives to live a life of compassion, inclusivity and love for all. A mystic loves everyone – no matter what path a person walks, the color of their skin, their sex, their sexual orientation, or economic class. The mystic sees divinity in all, from the homeless woman pushing her rickety shopping cart who is in dire need of a shower -- to His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

By thinking that we are more special than anyone else, we weaken our connection to God. The moment we inflate our ego, we create a void between ourselves and God, and we lose the all-embracing power of Spirit. I like how Wayne Dyer puts it in Change Your Thoughts - Change Your Life: Living the Wisdom of the Tao,

If a thought or behavior divides us, it is not of God;
if it unites us, it is of God.” (Page 26)

When we discriminate or exclude anyone for any reason, our connection to Spirit is weakened. The stronger our relationship with God - the more we can use God’s infinite power.

Next time you see someone who is a bit different, whether it’s the color of their skin, their sex, a disability, or their sexual orientation, remind yourself that nobody is special or everybody is special. Better yet, eliminate your judgments of those you meet and see yourself in everyone.

If God is impartial – can’t we even try to be? Is it possible that God's imparitiality is the best argument for inclusion?

I love the following passage by His Holiness the Dalai Lama:

"From the viewpoint of absolute truth, what we feel and experience in our ordinary daily life is all delusion. Of all the various delusions, the sense of discrimination between oneself and others is the worst form, as it creates nothing but unpleasantness for both sides. If we can realize and meditate on ultimate truth, it will cleanse our impurities of mind and thus eradicate the sense of discrimination. This will help to create true love for one another. The search for ultimate truth is, therefore, vitally important."

Knowing that spirit says we are all one, it's kinda like picking on yourself when you treat others poorly!

The god you speak of is in your imagination, an idol you worship instead of the one true God. God is in fact love which is why He must also be perfectly just. You wouldn't believe justice was served if the man who raped and killed your daughter (hypothetical) was not punished, would you? We are created with an instinctive desire for justice, which comes from Him.

Should I allow my 14 year old daughter to date a 30 year old high-school drop-out who's into porn, a drug addict and has a criminal record, or in wise discernment, judge his character and keep her far from him?

God is no respecter of persons with regard to His judgment and salvation. All sin must be punished no matter the degree or frequency. The Bible says, "for, all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God," making us all condemned. Only through a loving relationship with Jesus Christ can one avoid the final judgment. We're all spiritually dead and need to be regenerated to everlasting life through Jesus.

Melody, thank you for that great reminder.

Disciple of Christ - i think it's great that we can respectfully disagree with each other and honor each other's opinions.
    Namaste.
