The New Orleans Saints seem awfully close to possibly losing their second player of the offseason to another team. (UPDATE at bottom)
Running back Mike Bell is in Philadelphia today to visit with the Eagles and the team is now calling for a press conference tomorrow morning. The Philadelphia Daily News is reporting that Bell is likely to sign an offer with the Eagles.
The Saints of course would have the right to match any offer made to Bell since he is a restricted free agent. Though they would receive no compensation should they decline to match.
Josh Luchs, Bell's agent, is stating that there is still no solid offer yet on the table from Philly and the Seahawks (Bell's first visit) are still in contention. Another team is stated to be in the running for Bell's services too and it is not Cleveland as once rumored.
Luchs has said that Bell passed a physical in Philadelphia with no problems.
It certainly appears as if Mike Bell may soon be on his way out of black and gold and into other colors, but I'm not so sure the Saints are that worried. With Pierre Thomas, Reggie Bush, and second-year back Lynell Hamilton still with the team; there may not be much cause for concern. Bell isn't gone yet though so only time will tell.
UPDATE 4:53 P.M. Central: Running back Mike Bell has received an offer from the Philadelphia Eagles and has agreed to it. It is a one-year deal for $1.7 million with $500,000 guaranteed. This is about $600,000 more than the Saints offered Bell with no guaranteed money.
New Orleans has seven days to match the offer or lose him by letting him stay with Philly.
