For the third time this season, the New Orleans Saints have graced the cover of the Sports Illustrated magazine. Only this time is by far the most enjoyable.
Check out the slideshow below for pictures of each cover.
This week's release of the magazine will focus on Drew Brees holding his young son Baylen high above his head as confetti rains down all around them and Brees' fellow Saints' teammates.
The Saints had just won Super Bowl XLIV by defeating the Indianapolis Colts 31-17 in the franchise's first ever trip to the big game. It was a game that saw total domination by the Colts, then back and forth action between the two teams, and finally the Saints just pulling away for the victory. Music blared and confetti showered everyone in black and gold as they ran out onto the field and celebrated in true New Orleans' style.
Earlier this season, Reggie Bush made the first of three magazine covers for the Saints after their dramatic comeback victory over the Miami Dolphins to stay undefeated. Bush cut around the end on a play, leaped from the 6-yard line, and got the ball to cross the goal line for a great score. The image on the cover captured him perfectly in mid-flight.
Fans were scared though that a supposed "curse" on those that make the Sports Illustrated cover would now descend down upon the Saints' heads. Didn't seem to work though because the team won seven more games before finally losing their first.
The second cover showed Drew Brees after the Saints had won the NFC Championship game over the Minnesota Vikings to advance to Super Bowl XLIV. It was a fantastic game that ended in dramatic fashion with a 40-yard field goal from Garrett Hartley in overtime to send the Saints to Miami.
Again the thought of a curse came from numerous black and gold fans. They may have been onto something though because the previous week had seen two different Sports Illustrated magazine covers. One portrayed the New York Jets and the other had the Vikings...both teams lost in the Championship Round.
Still, the Saints must have had some divine intervention or just the pure talent to make sure no curse would affect them. They strolled into Miami without a cocky swagger, but a confident one and they captured the World Championship.
Brees ended up winning the MVP of the game and was a part of some of the most memorable post game images in the history of the NFL. With tears in his eyes and his young baby son in his arms, Drew Brees was soaking in everything and living in the moment of what was possibly one of the greatest moments of his life.

That is this week's edition and I believe it comes out tomorrow or Friday at the latest. I'm sorry I don't know the exact day but check with stores and news stands tomorrow.
That is just plain AWESOME!!!!
thanks danny
I was hoping Brees and his son would be on the SI cover this week..and it is. The picture on the cover is not the picture above however.
Well, the pic in the slideshow is the one on the cover and I like it. Think it was the perfect image honestly.
The Saints "get it" when it comes to being a team. A true team includes their families and the fans in their celebrations. It's not just about them. I have never seen such joy after a victory. The parade in New Orleans drew the biggest crowds ever..500,000 to 800,000 people.
Got something to say?
