The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the largest crib recall in history today. Over 2 million cribs produced by Stork Craft Manufacturing, Inc., of British Columbia, Canada, may cause injury or deaths to infants. The Fisher-Price logo is on 147,000 of the Stork Craft drop-side cribs. Cribs with no drop-side are not part of the recall.
The drop-side of the crib may detach due to plastic parts that can break, creating a gap between the drop-side and the mattress that may entrap infants. The CPSC has confirmed 110 incidents, including suffocation due to entrapment and falls.
The cribs, with costs $100 to $400, were sold at major retailers such as Walmart, Sears, Meijers, BJ’s Wholesale Club, USA Baby, JC Penney, Babies ‘R Us, Amazon.com, Costco.com, and Target.com.
Parents and caregivers should immediately cease using the recalled cribs and find alternate arrangements until they receive the free repair kit. According to the CPSC, parents can identify the recalled cribs by looking at the following:
- Stork Craft cribs with manufacturing and distribution dates between January 1993 and October 2009.
- Stork Craft cribs with the Fisher-Price logo that have manufacturing dates between October 1997 and December 2004. The Stork Craft cribs with the Fisher-Price logo were first sold in the U.S. in July 1998 and in Canada in September 1998. The cribs were sold in various styles and finishes.
- The manufacture date, model number, crib name, country of origin, and the firm’s name, address, and contact information are located on the assembly instruction sheet attached to the mattress support board.
- The firm’s insignia “storkcraft baby” or “storkling” is inscribed on the drop-side teething rail of some cribs.
- In Stork Craft cribs that contain the “Fisher-Price” logo, this logo can be found on the crib’s teething rail, in the manufacturer’s instructions, on the assembly instruction sheet attached to the mattress support board, and on the end panels of the Twinkle-Twinkle and Crystal crib models.

This is so scary!!! What's with all the baby product recalls lately?
Thanks for sharing this info. That photo is frightening. Someone should put out a guide for safe baby products (e.g. cribs that won't suffocate your child and strollers that won't amputate fingers).
Got something to say?
