Will the Patriots bring back Ty Law?

It seems like this story comes up every year, but once again former Patriot cornerback Ty Law is talking to Bill Belichick and company about a potential return. Darrelle Revis told the New York Daily News that Law is talking to both the Patriots and the Browns, and that he plans to play again in 2009.
Law may not be what he used to, but the Patriots have a relatively young secondary (outside of Shawn Springs) and could use his veteran presence, toughness, and play making ability. There’s something to be said about a cornerback who catches the ball when it comes to him, and Ty Law has always had that knack.
I can’t see the Patriots bringing Law into camp to compete for a job. Shawn Springs, Leigh Bodden, Terrence Wheatley, Jonathan Wilhite, Darius Butler, Jamar Love, and Mike Richardson all currently fill the depth chart. The first five guys are almost definitely going to make the opening day roster. Love and Richardson could stick as special teams guys.
Law would likely be an option should the Patriots suffer multiple injuries at some point during the season.
The Jason Taylor buzz increased over the last few days due to a Providence Journal report that claimed some inside the Patriots’ organization believe there’s already a handshake agreement in place to bring the former Dolphin to New England.
Since Taylor became a free agent, New England has been mentioned as the most likely landing spot for the former pro bowler. Taylor is interested in returning to Miami, but the interest seems to be one-sided. That leaves the Patriots as his first (and maybe only) choice if he plans to play in 2009.
Taylor and Brady are friends, Belichick loves Taylor, and the last time he played in a system similar to New England’s he was the NFL’s defensive player of the year.
It’s too perfect a fit not to happen.
The other player frequently linked to the New England Patriots this offseason, Julius Peppers, appears to have backed himself into a corner. He doesn’t want to play in Carolina, nobody is going to give up two first round picks to sign him, and he refuses to sign his tender so Carolina can trade him.
His handling of his situation has made it a virtual certainty that he will not be a New England Patriot in 2009.
