thanks for the article. I'm headed to the Old Course first week of August. Going to show up around 4am and pray. A heads up though from the St. Andrews Trust website about the ballot " A minimum two golfers can enter by telephone, 01334 466666, ". They confirmed this for me as well via email. If you are a single you cannot enter the ballot (you must have at least a twosome). The only way other than advanced bookings (currently booked through October for singles) is by showing up to the starter.
Sure enjoyed the pics of those St. Andrews golfers!
Was at the Old last Saturday, and the course was basically empty. We put into the ballot for times beginning 12-4 and received two time 1200 and 1210. Our friends were around the 18th in the afternoon, and said no one went off the first tee for two hours. The recession may be a good thing for those wanting to get on the Old, since right now, it seems like there's plenty of open times.
You must take the time to head up north to Castle Stuart a new course which just opened, and well worth the trip, here's my review: forelinksters.com/course/castle_stuart_golf_club_castle_stuart
