Pre-NFL Draft Q&A with Marlon Lucky

His time at Nebraska can most certainly be considered roller coaster ride for former Husker Marlon Lucky. Though his time with the Big Red didn't end as he might have hoped, let's not forget all the greats things Lucky did as a Husker. As a Junior, fans really got a taste at what the North Hollywood product could do with the ball.

In that season, Marlon was able to lead all running backs in the entire country in receptions and receiving yards. Why is this so special? Well for those who aren't aware, the west coast offense that was first implemented by former Husker head coach Bill Callahan is an offense in which the short passing game is of the utmost importance. Lucky proved he was the perfect player for such a style. The NFL is predominantly based off the very same offense, so it only makes sense as to why Lucky has a great chance of succeeding at the professional level.

As the NFL Draft quickly approaches, (this Saturday and Sunday on ESPN) I had the opportunity to sit down and have a conversation with Marlon about the draft, as well as his time at Nebraska.

Q: Overall, how do you feel about your time at Nebraska?

A: I felt good, it was a nice experience. I had some good times and some bad times there, but that's expected. Overall I had a great time there.

Q: What will you miss most about playing at Nebraska?

A: Coming out during the tunnel walk, I wish I had my last game back, but things happen for a reason.

Q: What will you be doing during the draft?

A: I don't know, as of now I don't really want to watch it, but I'll pry be at the house just lounging around.

Q: How do you feel about your chances of getting drafted, or signing as a free agent?

A: I'm hearing things for all over the place, i'm expecting the worst just so I can get excited if something does happen. But I'm definitely just going to expect the worst.

Q: What qualities do you think you could bring an NFL team?

A: I can bring a team anything. I got hands, I can block, good agility. I can play special teams. just as long as they get the ball in my hands.

Q: If you had to choose a player, past or present, who does your style of play most resemble?

A: Brian Westbrook (Philadelphia Eagles) and L.T. (Ladanian Tomlinson), they can catch, pass block, do about anything. I feel like I can be that type of player as well.

Q:What position do you think best fits you in the pros?

A: Running back, I can be a third down or everyday down back. I think I could also do well on kickoff return.

Q: What have you been told by experts or scouts of your chances in the NFL?

A: I've heard word I will be getting drafted anywhere from the mid to late rounds. We'll just have to see if it's on Saturday or Sunday.

Q: Would you be open to a position change if that's what an NFL team prefers?

A: Yeah, I can play about anything on the field. If the want to put me at another position, I'll do it.

Q: How do you feel about the future of Nebraska football under Bo Pelini?

A: I think they got a good future, he's really bringing the defense together. He gives the team energy and that's what they need to get an extra boost. I think they are going to be a very good team in the future.

Q: Is there any certain team you think you'd fit in well with or hope you get the chance to play for?

A: Any team with a west coast offense. I know a bunch of teams in the NFL run it, so hopefully I go to one of those teams. Coach Callahan brought that to me with that very large playbook. I think it works for me.

Q: Is there anything else you'd like to add that you'd like to tell Husker fans or NFL teams?

A: Give me a chance and I'll show you what I can do. My last season didn't;t show what I can do. I just need that opportunity and I'll show everyone.

With the draft coming up this weekend, I am planning to do a follow up with Marlon. It will be interesting to see where the young athlete might land, especially after proving some critics wrong with his MVP performance in the annual East-West Shrine game last January.

Good luck to all the former huskers this upcoming draft weekend! I think Marlon could bring a lot to the table for an NFL team.
