Jannero Pargo joins Golden State Warriors

Back up guard Jannero Pargo has signed a 2-year $2.4 million dollar contract with the Golden State Warriors. Pargo played last season for the Chicago Bulls and averaged 5.5 points, 1.4 assists, and 1.2 rebounds.

When healthy, Pargo is a serviceable offensive threat off the bench. However, the Warriors don’t really need Pargo at this moment in time. Golden State currently has four guards under contract that are 6’3 and under, Stephen Curry, Monta Ellis, Charlie Bell, and Jeremy Linn. Adding Pargo gives the Warriors 5 undersized offensive-minded guards in their backcourt.

NBA Notes

The Chicago Bulls worked out Tracy McGrady earlier this week and were reportedly disappointed in his mobility and conditioning. The Bulls haven’t closed the door on McGrady, but are also taking a look at Eddie House, Keith Bogans, and Roger Mason Jr.

Chicago is also in play for Blazers guard Rudy Fernandez along with the Boston Celtics and New York Knicks.

Rockets center Yao Ming has said that if his foot is not completely healed he will retire from the game of basketball. As of now Yao is expected to start the season for Houston.

T-Wolves guard Jonny Flynn underwent successful surgery on his left hip and is expected to miss the start of the 2010/2011 season.

Memphis Grizzlies rookie Greivis Vasquez had bone spurs removed from his right ankle. He is expected to be ready for training camp in September.

The Miami Heat re-signed big man Shavlik Randolph. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Pistons guard Will Bynum has reportedly agreed to a 3-year $10.5 million dollar contract with Detroit.

The Portland Trailblazers have added assistant coaches Bernie Bickerstaff, Bob Ociepka, and Buck Williams to their coaching staff.

The NBA issued a memo warning teams not to have contact with Hornets guard Chris Paul or his agent without consent of the New Orleans Hornets. Failure to comply will result in suspensions, prohibition of said player to join offending team, forfeiture of draft picks, and fines of up to $5 million dollars.

Paul requested a trade earlier this month and the flood gates came crashing open. Paul met with Hornets management and came out of that meeting saying he was committed to the city of New Orleans. The question is, for how long?
