Ben Gordon agrees to deal with Pistons

Ben Gordon, NBA

The Detroit Pistons have landed their number one free agent target in sharp shooter Ben Gordon. Gordon has failed to reach an agreement on a contract extension with the Chicago Bulls for two consecutive seasons. Gordon turned down offers in excess of $50 million dollars in hopes of being the highest paid Bull.

Gordon has reportedly signed a 5-year deal worth $55 million dollars with the Pistons. The Pistons are also negotiating with Bucks forward Charlie Villanueva. Both players are former UCONN Huskies.

The Detroit Pistons now have three guards in their back-court who are strictly offensive players in Gordon, Rip Hamilton, and Rodney Stuckey. The Pistons need a true point guard and a center, so bringing in Gordon and Villanueva is a head scratcher.

The Bulls will miss Gordon's long range shooting, but losing him allows Derrick Rose to be a focal point of the Bulls offense.

Less than 24 hours ago the Pistons fired Head Coach Michael Curry and now they're leading the charge in free agent signings. It will be interesting to see what other moves Pistons General Manager Joe Dumars has up his sleeve.
