Breastfeeding is a natural process, as is eating and drinking. However, certain factors like physical stress and emotional and mental status may affect it. Much of its success depends on prenatal preparation, labor and delivery support and environment, as well as post partum care.
Breastfeeding and the mother-child connection during the first hour of birth is considered the most crucial for life time health. Nevertheless, this hour can be influenced by birth attendees, the setting of delivery i.e. home birth versus hospital birth, the emotional support and education labor staff and family will provide with regards to breastfeeding.
