The Dr. Oz tv show recap: what to do when you hit the weight-loss plateau
Once we diet and exercise, we have less weight to carry around. When this happens, metabolism slows and weight-loss hits a plateau. It's a good thing because it shows you've made progress. When this happens:
1) Change diet:
A) Add high-volume, water-based foods:
- watermelon
- cantaloupe
- celery
B) Eat peppers: they speed metabolism and if eat them at breakfast, will not be as hungry at lunch
C) Eat protein: it uses more calories to burn
2) Change work-outs:
Add difficulty, for example: walk and run, eventually until you just run
The Dr. Oz tv show recap: deadly bacteria hiding in your kitchen
It's been found the kitchen has more deadly bacteria than the bathroom. Dr. Oz tested 3 female audience member's homes and found:
First audience member:
- Shigella, one of the most dangerous bacteria and causes dysentry, in the kitchen sink
- Streptococcus pneumoniae, causes mennigitis, and found in the dishes drain mat
Second audience member:
- Klebsiella oxytoca, causes pneumonia, found on cutting board
Third audience member:
- E. Coli, most common bacteria found in fecal matter, found in refrigerator
Solutions:
- Wash sink 2 times per week and pour cleaning solution down drain where most bacteria thrive.
- Use plastic cutting boards: 1 for meat and 1 for vegetables
- Store meat in self-lock plastic bags and place on bottom shelf of refrigerator. This way, bacteria are contained and meat doesn't drip onto shelves under it.
