Dr. Oz beauty queens share weight-loss information: Julie Miller Interview

Three beauty queens agreed to share their weight-loss journey on the The Dr. Oz Show. In this interview, Jullie Miller shares what is happening with her now.

Julie Miller

  • 1) Are you working out?
  • I always get in my 10,000 steps. I have taken this seriously, since I live in Ohio I got a treadmill. I have made a deal with myself that I DO NOT allow myself to watch any of my favorite shows unless I am walking on my treadmill. One 1hr show is 5000 steps. Now that it is nice outside I walk to school and pick up my son (his suggestion) and then he and I walk home. It is 5300 steps from home to school and back. It has both helped me get out and helps me hear more about my sons day. Also we have picked up many of my sons friends along the way. Now 3-4 boys walk with me a day, of course as long as it is nice! So one soap opera (treat) and walk to school 10,000 steps - plus anything else is a bonus!
  • 2) Has the show changed your life and in what way?
  • I have made MANY life changes. You find when you change for the positive not many want to change with you! We are not doing a diet we are making a lifestyle change and the people in your life have to be ready for that. The biggest challenge YOU need to be ready for that!
  • 3) Will you compete in beauty contests after you lose the weight?
  • I would like to and hoped to make it a goal but there is a key missing I am not a "Mrs" like Jill. LOL. As well as everything else I have recently called off an engagement.
  • 4) How old are you?
  • I am 41 - so Wow I am the OLDEST.
  • 5) How are you losing weight?
  • I have been consistent every week!! The belief in the commercials that 20lbs in 20 days or 10lbs in 2 weeks. Don't believe it! Or you can believe it but you wont stay with it!
  • 6) Do you like Jill? (Editor's note: Dr. Oz brought beauty queen, Jill Knapp, in to coach the ladies.)
  • I love Jill. She is my saving grace. I can call/email her anytime. She knows what we have been through. She has been there and she understands.
  • 7) What do you do for a living?
  • I am unemployed right now which is why I was motivated to do the show. I was a Sr. Program Manager/consultant for a Fortune 500 Company. This is why I went looking for SOMETHING to change what I had become. I was in a panic that I was going to HAVE to interview in front of people. I know the show only portrayed that I only didn't want to take my son to school. But editing for time is not always a good thing. I refused/refuse to leave my house. I spent the last 18 months working from home HIDING. If you recall Dr. Oz stated at the beginning of the show that I had a great deal of changes in my life. I had a great deal of loss that brought me here. I have lost a child (recent miscarriage - 2 in past year), loss of a job, engagement canceled (loss of upcoming marriage) and basically a loss of self. I am the type of person that has a strong self worth and identity through work, so being without a job is not good for me.
  • 8) Do you have kids?
  • I do have one 14 year old son (will be 14 in April)

Thank you Julie. We wish you the best of luck and feel you are already a winner. Watch for announcements for the rest of the beauty queen interviews and next Dr. Oz show.

Julie, Sounds like you are focused. Good for you. I was worried about you because of your high triglycerides. I had the same problem. It took time but I am doing great and it sounds like you are as well.

Julie you are not alone. I gained 60 something pounds after I had my 2 kids. I did lot's of pageants when I was young. I have been following your success. I am so impressed. I am on my weigh to getting back in shape and maybe I will go for a Mrs. title.

    Julie,
Please get it together. No pity party will ever be thrown for you. At first I thought you were funny but this article is not. I was so shocked as I was reading. So what you are 41. Why then if you are 41 would you be getting pregnant TWICE within a year with no husband, no job, no home or security? It sounds like you are making poor decisions in all aspects of your personal life. Don't look to your mentor/coach or anyone else (everyone is out for publicity and themselves). Look inside you. Find out what is really going on with you. I am rooting for you especially to be healthier, don't worry about the weight. Get your boot straps on and do your best!

    Julie,
Again I make no apologies. You are a tough girl. I will ignore the scabs on here, not worth my time. Because contray to popular belief I am not perfect. Take what you will from my post. You have to take care of yourself and make yourself number one. And I am rooting for you.

I am a big fan of the Dr. OZ ladies. I read Jill and Julies blog. I read Catheas fan book page. I just read that Cathea get's to go on the road with Dr. OZ and Dr. Roizen. Why aren't all of you going? Also is there away I can follow Mona. Does she keep a blog?

  • Deborah Oakes-Oklahoma City Natural Health Examine 1 year ago

I don't have any of the information about who is going on the road with Dr. Oz, when the ladies will be on the show again or how to stay in touch with Mona. However, if and when I receive more information, I will be glad to post it. Thanks for your support,
    Deborah

  • Did they go back on the show yet? I have been watching.

    Hello everyone!

I know I don't really need to answer bad comments or even defend myself. But I think you seem to have some bad information about me. Bad choices are really not an accurate depiction. Yes, I was unemployed (at the time of the show) but had a savings plus a severence package to be able to take care of my son and myself for the past several months. I don't need to boast about my career or my many degrees, but I do well. I have a home, so I do not know where that comment came from. Shawn and I have been together for a great deal of time. We have known each other since the fourth grade. I also had a full time job when I became pregnant. So to say that I got pregnant irresponsibly is an untrue statement. I have always wanted another child, but have just been unable since my son was born. I have been a great mom and have always longed to love another child. I was in (what I thought at the time) a very loving relationship.

I went on the show after losing my job, having two miscarriages and like everyone else feeling like I had done all I could on my own. I wanted to be able to look at myself again in the mirror. The show has been a great opportunity for me to grow and meet people I never would have met in my little bubble. It has allowed me to call out for help, which I otherwise would not have. It made me see that I was NOT alone. For anyone to think that some of us are just out for publicity or pity then keep watching. You will be in for a great surprise.

  • Thanks for dropping by and sharing with us Julie. Best wishes to you.
