Herbs with your Thanksgiving dinner

Holiday turkey dinners would not be complete at our house with out sage cornbread dressing.

Then of course there is the garlic creamed potatoes or the sweet potatoes with cinnamon and nutmeg.

Pumpkin pie would not taste right to us with out these herbs, ginger,cloves,cinnamon,and nutmeg.

Apple pie has no flavor without cinnamon and a dash of cloves.

Rosemary brown rice or rosemary fried or oven roasted potatoes(done with olive oil ) is served as a main dish on some holidays. Pasta salad nor slaw would taste right to us with out celery seed,onion, and garlic, as added ingredients.

Green beans cooked with almonds and parsley,gingered carrots, porta bella mushrooms with fresh garlic , parsley and basil sauteed in olive oil ,green peas cooked with a small sprig of thyme are vegetable dishes with herbal touches that  have been served often for holiday dinner at our house. 

Herbs not only add flavor but if used regularly in your food they provide many health benefits as well.

Many dis-eases are caused by chronic body inflammatory problems. Herbs are often used in therapies and formulas to help get rid of chronic body inflammation.

Substituting things like brown rice for white rice,whole wheat pasta for regular pasta,and adding these herbs will go along way in assisting chronic inflammatory conditions. So enjoy your holiday dinners,just remember that herbs are a large part of the wonderful aromas,flavors and health benefits that can come from your kitchen.
