The simple answer is eat pure. In order to maintain a strong immune system to prevent the flu, we should eat those foods that don’t add to the stockpile of toxins already built up in the body. This is easier said then done for those of us who have hectic lifestyles. However, here are a few tips that can help you prevent being under nourished with a weakened immune system.

Eat With The Season
Our appetites will increase as our bodies prepare to maintain warmth. It is also natural to gain a few extra pounds (3 to 4), which serve as a layer for warmth. Our bodies will shed the pounds in the spring. As our bodies demands more food to keep warm, we must maintain our baseline of fruits and vegetables, which are our bodies natural antioxidants and internal scrubbers. Know that our bodies prefer seasonal fruits and vegetables. Including grapes, pears, apples, broccoli, beets, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, celery, garlic, kale, mustard greens, parsley, spinach, cauliflower, onion, Swiss chard, and squash.

Control The Need To Eat More
Meat eaters will want more meat and dairy; however, to avoid excessive weight gain, stick with high fiber, low fat meals. Vegetarians will want more whole grains, nuts, beans, seeds, dairy and eggs (if used). Snacks are essential and should consist of nuts, fruit, veggies with bean dips and healthy energy bars. Choose water over sugary drinks. Avoid mucus producing, congestive foods like cheese, whole milk, bread, sweets, and fried food. Include roots and herbs like onions, garlic, ginger, Echinacea, cinnamon, turmeric, fennel, cumin, peppers, sage, nutmeg, and parsley.
