This New Year’s Eve will see an historic event coming to your television via the Showtime network. Thursday, December 31, 2009 will be the night on Showtime for Native American stand-up comedy. Showtime is presenting “Goin’ Native: The American Indian Comedy Slam”.
Goin’ Native will feature comedians Jim Ruel (Ojibwe) , J.R. Red water (Sioux), Marc Yafee (Aztec/Navajo), Vaughn Eagle bear (Sioux/Colville) from the Powwow Comedy Jam group along with veteran stage comedians: Larry Omaha (Yaqui/Zapotec) and Howie Miller. The comedy showcase will also be hosted by comedian Charlie Hill (Oneida).
The comedy concert was taped in early 2009 and is set to be the first time a comedy slam is made up of an all Native cast and televised nationally. Seven Native comedians on one stage and on one night? What better way to ring in the new year on a good note than surrounded by family and enjoying the laughter?
Showtime will air Goin’ Native, this Thursday (December 31st) at 10:00 p.m. EST/PST and will have it available On Demand in January 2010 from the 1st through January 28th.
