The first Native Tribe to officially support Barack Obama for president is now waiting for him to declare the reservation a disaster.

According to a Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe (CRST) press release, 3,000 utility poles were downed during recent severe storms. CRST Chairman, Joseph Brings Plenty, has declared a state of emergency.

Thousands of CRST residents have been without water, heat, and electricity for six days as of this morning. Experts relate it may be as long as one month to restore power across the reservation.
Wind-chill factors in central South Dakota have been subzero.

Brings Plenty worries the reservation’s all ready overburdened water system, which consists of pipes running through the reservation, will fail. Neighboring off-reservation communities are also affected, because the reservation pipelines feed those communities.

The tribe is very grateful for assistance from the Navajo Nation, Wal-Mart, Army Corps of Engineers, South Dakota National Guard, and State’s Department of Public Safety.
But, much more help is needed. For more information:

found this story via Dangerous Minds - hearing nothing but crickets on it everywhere else.

I've figured that Haiti is receiving more financial help right now than its' "overseers" know what to do with... so haven't contributed to that effort.

I now know where my financial support will go.

    Thanks

The Haiti gov.doesn't even want the Americans there helping their people, the Haiti gov.said on national TV that the Americans rape their children then steal every one's land. I agree,it's all about power.I do think that Obama should help and protect the Native American Indians rights as well as what small;minimal amount of space called home should be preserved, seeing it was my people that stole land from the Indians it should now be given back and/or shared.United We Stand;Divided We Fall. We must all stand together in a circle and pray for freedom,it may be your own or other's.Thanks....Peace

Can someone give advice on who to contact to express our outrage at this state of affairs? Congressmen? They had no problem sending billions to Haiti, what about our own countries needs.
