Dawnena is an enrolled Pawnee from Oklahoma. Her maternal grandparents are Dawnena Howell, member of Flandreau/Santee tribe, and Virgil Howell, member of the Pawnee tribe. Virgil Howell was one of the first Alamo Scouts to fight in World War II along with Gen. MacArthur. Dawnena is former Jr. Miss Indian Colorado. She currently dances for Seven Falls Indian Dance troupe managed by her dedicated mother, Carrie Howell. Dawnena is married to a very dedicated husband. They currently have four beautiful, intelligent and vibrant children who are active in the Native American youth community. Dawnena volunteers with her mother for various projects including, Native American Girl Scouts and the Denver Indian Family Resource Center.
