Today, Superintendent Trish Kicklighter announced that Assateague Island National Seashore is open to visitors. However, hazardous conditions do remain from last week’s northeaster and as a result some closures are still in effect.
Condition and damage assessments and repairs are underway and officials say that opening public facilities is a priority for park staff.
Superintendent Kicklighter said, “We regret any inconvenience and we absolutely understand the desire to experience a barrier island after a storm. We ask for understanding and patience as we work to re-open areas as quickly as possible.”
A list of closures at the seashore and neighboring Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge is available from Assateague Island National Seashore.
