On Thursday, Richard Childress Racing, JR Motorsports, Dale Earnhardt Inc., and Wrangler unveiled a No. 3 Nationwide Series car, to be sponsored by Wranger, that Dale Earnhardt Jr. will drive in the Nationwide race at Daytona International Speedway on July 2.
Soon after RCR, JRM, and DEI announced that they would have an official unveiling of some sort on April 29, the cat was let out of the bag that it would be a car unveiling and that Earnhardt Jr. would be driving a No. 3 Wrangler car at Daytona. Those involved remain tight-lipped after the information was leaked, but it was made official on Thursday, what would have been Dale Earnhardt Sr.'s 59th birthday.
"This was an idea that came up as a way to pay tribute to my dad, and it's pretty cool that it's a collaborative effort between JR Motorsports, RCR, and DEI," Earnhardt Jr. said.
Earnhardt Sr. piloted a No. 3 Wrangler-backed car in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series through much of the 1980s.
"The Wrangler car is definitely in the top-10 of coolest cars that have ever been on the race track," Earnhardt Jr. said.
The car will be fielded by RCR, even though it will be built and prepared by JRM. Earnhardt Childress Engines will provide the power plant.
