The US Census Bureau will be a sponsor for the No. 16 Roush-Fenway Racing Ford driven by Greg Biffle in NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series.
Census director Robert Groves confirmed the deal Thursday on the Hill website as the bureau unveiled its $130 million ad campaign aimed at making Americans aware of this year’s census.
The director pointed out that 40 percent of their ad campaign would be spent on reaching African-Americans and Hispanics.
“We’re spending more money on what we call ‘hard to enumerate groups,’” Groves said. “We tend to under-enumerate new immigrant groups, especially groups whose native language is not English.”
But some English-speakers can also be hard to reach, he said then added:
“We’re also sponsoring a NASCAR, by the way, Number 16, Greg Biffle.”
Public Service announcements with Biffle will also debut this weekend.

What a waste of my money! They think we are that stupid that we don't know about the Census? If if we don't --- SO WHAT?
Who in the Census Bureau wants to rub elbows with NASCAR people? Or are they ones who didn't go to "global warming" "conference" to flush my money away?
Oh, by the way, I enjoy, watch and follow NASCAR - so I am not an anti-car racing person!
Well, I guess there should be a counter argument. I am a NASCAR fan, former part-time Busch series crew member, and currently a Census employee. I'm glad to see the Census associated with Greg Biffle and NASCAR if it helps get out the important message that the Census is important and that people should participate. As to a "waste of money" the Census budget is huge and perhaps much of it could be spent more prudently, but I think this is a wise use of advertising dollars.
