Jimmie Johnson made NASCAR history by winning four consecutive NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championships; Wednesday Johnson continued his run of consecutive awards scoring his third straight ESPY.
Johnson won the Best Driver award beating out 2009 NASCAR Nationwide Series champion Kyle Busch, four-time NASCAR Camping World Truck Series champion Ron Hornaday Jr., 2009 IndyCar champion Dario Franchitti and six-time NHRA Top Fuel champion Tony Schumacher.
He was one of five finalists for the Best Male Athlete Award. That award went to New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees.
Including the Male Athlete of the Year, Brees received four trophies. He also won Best Championship Performance, Best NFL Player and shared the team award with his Super Bowl-champion Saints.
The Hendrick Motorsports driver, who is the reigning Associated Press Male Athlete of the Year, has won the ESPY award for the Best Driver in 2008 and 2009.
Johnson is no doubt on top of the world after winning the award exactly one week after his first child, Genevieve Marie, was born.
Johnson is also one of the Best Driver nominees along with 2009 NASCAR Nationwide Series champion Kyle Busch, four-time NASCAR Camping World Truck Series champion Ron Hornaday Jr., 2009 IndyCar champion Dario Franchitti and six-time NHRA Top Fuel champion Tony Schumacher.
