Has Darlington Raceway seen its last NASCAR Sprint Cup race?

With the speculation centering on an additional date for Kansas Speedway nest season after the track secured a casino, the talk turned to which track would lose a date. Some of the names mentioned included California, Atlanta and Martinsville but the one track not among them was the famed Lady In Black.

However Friday Darlington president Chris Browning admitted that he has yet to receive the track’s yearly sanctioning agreements from NASCAR, which spell out the date the track will have next season. He also added that normally those agreements are already in hand.

Darlington has been one of the longest running venues on the NASCAR schedule having held two races until 2005. In 2006 one of those dates was lost and the other moved to Mothers Day Weekend.

NASCAR president Brian France said last week at Daytona that the series is looking at realigning dates next season and confirmed that Kansas has applied for a second date. That track and Darlington are owned by International Speedway Corporation. Meanwhile Speedway Motorsports Incorporated has been seeking a date on the Sprint Cup schedule for Kentucky Speedway as well as a second date at Las Vegas.

NASCAR has already scheduled a Camping World Truck Series race at Darlington on August 14th.

The final 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup series schedule is expected to be released by Labor Day.

I am from Cali and have been to every race at Cali since 2002 and only have missed 1997,98,99 and 01 there. I also went to Darlington for the Spring 03 race and of course that was the one that was decided by Ricky Craven winning by .002 over Kurt Busch. I do NOT want to see Darlington lose it's one race and surely don't want to see Martinsville lose either race. I am actually much more in favor of my Cali losing it's race if Kansas needs a 2nd race. I actually prefer that Iowa would get a Cup race, but that's for another day.(Hopefully)
